Portugal never set a visa number. It set a multiplier: four times the national minimum wage. The wage moves every January, so the visa bar moves with it.
Start collecting papers in November on €3,480 and you file in February against €3,680. Nothing tells you it moved.

Malta sets a flat number and leaves it there. It has moved once, and when it did it nearly doubled.
Anyone who applied before 1 April 2024 keeps the old bar of €32,400 a year. That grandfathering clause is still on the eligibility page, which is why the old figure is still checkable.

Croatia

Croatia takes 2.5 times the average net salary from the year before, and the statistics office publishes that average in the official gazette each spring.
So the number changes in February or March, not in January, and until it appears you are still being judged against the year before last. Croatia joined the euro in 2023; before that the figure was gazetted in kuna.

Spain

Spain asks for 200% of the minimum wage, and the minimum wage is set by royal decree every February. That is the only part everyone agrees on.
The government does not agree with itself on how to read it. The instruction the deciding unit works from takes 200% of the monthly wage, which is €2,442 this year. Other official pages take 200% of the annual wage spread over twelve months, which is €2,849. We publish the higher figure, so a file prepared to it also meets the lower one.

Italy has not moved its number since the visa opened. The bar is three times the income level at which you stop paying towards healthcare, and that level has not been revised.
Two Italian government pages give two different answers. Most consular sites say €25,500 a year. The consulate in Buenos Aires says €28,000. We publish the figure most consular pages give, and prepare every file to the higher one so it clears either. The Embassy in Islamabad publishes no figure of its own.

Bulgaria

Bulgaria is the newest route on this page. There is no history to speak of because the permit did not exist before the middle of 2025.
The bar is fifty minimum monthly wages of annual income. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, and the 2026 wage decree is the first to state the figure in euro as well as lev.
The Act says the wage "for the previous calendar year". Read against the 2025 wage of 1,077 lev that is about €27,533 a year; read against the 2026 wage it is €31,010. No official page says which. We publish the higher figure, so a file prepared to it clears either reading.

Hungary is the only route here measured after tax. Three thousand euro net is a much higher bar than three thousand gross, and people compare it against the others as if it were the same number.
It also has to hold for the six months before you enter and for the whole time you stay, so a good quarter followed by a quiet one is a problem.
The current figure is confirmed and has stood since at least 2 March 2024, when the implementing decree took effect. What it was before that is not published on any Hungarian government page we could reach, and we will not put a date on a number we cannot source.
Romania

Romania asks for three times the average gross salary, and no Romanian authority publishes that as a euro figure. The real requirement is 27,576 lei a month, and every euro number you have seen, including ours, is somebody converting it.
Two different official averages exist. Parliament fixes one each year in the social insurance budget, and the statistics institute measures another every month. The law does not say which applies, which is why published thresholds disagree by hundreds of euro.

Brazil set its number in 2021 and has not touched it since. That makes it the lowest bar on this page by a wide margin, and the most predictable.
The resolution offers a genuine alternative: either $1,500 a month coming in, or $18,000 sitting in a bank. It is one or the other, not both.

Malaysia is the only route with two bars, and the gap between them is the widest of any programme here. A software engineer needs $24,000 a year. A finance manager needs $60,000.
Both figures are published annually, not monthly. The monthly numbers on this site are our arithmetic, not Malaysia’s.

The technology band of $24,000 a year is confirmed in MDEC’s current FAQ, but we could not read an official page dating when it started, so the list begins at the June 2024 expansion.
Indonesia

Indonesia asks the highest income of any route on this page, and it asks it only of employees. If you invoice your own clients, this is not your route.
The visa also sits inside Indonesia’s second-home family rather than standing on its own, which is why it is often described two different ways.
Indonesia’s immigration site confirms the current figure (checked 10 September 2026) but publishes no date for when it was set or whether it has changed, so no history is shown.

Thailand does not test income at all. It tests what you are holding: 500,000 baht in the bank, and that is the whole financial requirement.
What varies is how each embassy asks you to prove it. Some want a current balance, others want three months of statements ending on that balance. Check the post you are applying through, not a summary.

What people ask about these numbers
Which country has the lowest digital nomad visa income requirement?
Brazil, at USD 1,500 a month, and it has not moved since the visa was created in 2021. In Europe the lowest is Italy at EUR 2,125 a month. A low bar is not the same as an easy application: the evidence standard varies far more between countries than the number does.
Do digital nomad visa income requirements change every year?
Five of the twelve are a multiple of a national wage that is revised each year: Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania. Italy is a multiple of a healthcare exemption threshold rather than a wage. The other six are fixed amounts that only move when a government decides to move them, which Malta did once, in April 2024.
Why do different websites give different income requirements for the same country?
Usually because the country publishes a formula rather than a figure, and the two are not the same thing. Romania asks for three times the average gross salary and publishes no euro figure at all, so every euro number you see for Romania is somebody converting lei at a rate they picked. Spain is worse: two arms of its own government read the same rule differently.
Is the income requirement gross or net?
Hungary is the only route that states net income, which makes its EUR 3,000 a considerably higher bar than the figures it sits beside. The others state gross income or do not say, and Thailand tests savings rather than income.

Every figure carries the date we last checked it against the issuing authority, and a review date it must be re-checked by. That review date is enforced: the site cannot be republished while any figure is past it. Where we could not confirm a change history on a government source, the country says so rather than showing a date we made up.
