Remote employees, freelancers and business owners earning from outside Spain may qualify for the digital nomad visa.

The short answer

Income requirements for the Spain digital nomad visa

For people whose work stays outside Spain.

€2,849 a month gross, which is 200 percent of Spain's minimum wage. Spain states the rule as a share of the wage, never as a euro figure, and the Embassy of Spain in Islamabad words it that way. The wage is €1,221 a month, paid fourteen times a year. Spread over twelve months and doubled it gives our figure; read month by month it gives €2,442. We prepare every file to the higher one, so it clears either reading.

The amount is one thing, the proof is another. The Embassy asks for evidence of the income without fixing a number of months; we prepare three months of statements as a minimum, our advice rather than a Spanish rule. The Embassy may ask for more, and that is a request, not a refusal.

How much does the Spain digital nomad visa cost?

What the government charges

Apostille proves a document is genuine. A sworn translation makes it readable. A document may need one, both or neither. The Embassy recognises the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs apostille, and the UGE asks for a sworn translation of anything not in Spanish. We check what each of yours needs.

What happens after the visa is approved?

Collect the visa within a month, and travel. It is valid for one year and, in the Embassy's own words, is your residence document for that time, so there is no card to apply for on arrival. Inside Spain you can apply to the Large Companies Unit for an authorisation of up to three years.

Filing from Pakistan: in person at the Embassy of Spain in Islamabad, competent for the whole country, by an appointment requested by email. Not through the visa centres that handle short stays. Read the Embassy's own list before you submit. Official telework visa page.

Accompanying family

How much income should a family show?

Spain counts people, not roles. The first family member adds one share of the minimum wage, each further member a smaller share.

Indicative family income estimate

€2,849 / month gross

Enter your income to see where you stand.

Where these come from: the Embassy states at least 75 percent of the minimum wage for the first family member and 25 percent for each further one. On the same reading of the wage as the main figure, that is €1,068 and €356 a month.

Treat the result as an estimate, not a decision. This tool compares income against a threshold. It does not assess eligibility.

Conversions are approximate, at 1 EUR = 1.1592 USD = 0.8581 GBP, the European Central Bank reference rate for 2026-09-11.

    From experience

Why do strong applications still get questioned?

Usually a condition met in substance and not shown in the file.

    01

Social security treated as a later step

With no agreement between Spain and Pakistan, the employer's registration or your own self-employed registration has to be in the file. Without it the file is incomplete.

How we handle itWe start it first, because it is the slowest document in the set.

    02

An employer letter that does not match the contract

The letter has to permit remote work and agree with the contract on dates, role and pay. A generic HR letter does neither.

How we handle itWe give the employer the wording, and check it against the contract before it is signed.

    03

Spanish clients quietly over the line

One large Spanish client can carry a freelancer over the twenty percent limit without anyone noticing. The invoices show it even when nobody has added them up.

How we handle itWe total the last year by client country, and say plainly if this is not your route.

    04

    Experience claimed, not evidenced

Three years in your field is accepted in place of a degree, but a CV is a claim. Contracts, references and registrations covering those years are the evidence.

How we handle itWe build the three years from documents, then decide whether to lead with experience or the degree.

    Questions

    Spain digital nomad visa FAQs

What is the income requirement for the Spain digital nomad visa in 2026?

Two hundred percent of Spain's minimum wage, gross, which we publish as €2,849 a month. What proves it is separate: payslips or invoices, and statements showing the money arriving. A lower-income month does not automatically rule you out.

Can a Pakistani passport holder apply, and where?

Yes. Applications from Pakistan go in person to the Embassy of Spain in Islamabad, which covers the whole country, by an appointment requested by email. The Embassy gives itself ten days to decide, from the day after filing, longer if it asks for more.

Do I need Spanish social security before I apply?

Yes, because Spain has no social security agreement with Pakistan. An employee needs the employer registered with Spanish social security and their own affiliation. A freelancer registers as self-employed. The UGE names both in its guidance.

Can I keep working for clients in Spain?

Only up to twenty percent of your total activity, and only as a freelancer. An employee must work for a company outside Spain. A mostly Spanish client list does not support this route, and is worth reviewing before you file.

Can my spouse and children come with me?

Yes. Each family member raises the income figure: €1,068 a month for the first and €356 for each further member, on top of your own €2,849. Those are shares of the minimum wage, not of your threshold. The family calculator above shows your total.

Do my Pakistani documents need an apostille, or a translation?

Both, for a public document. The Embassy recognises the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs apostille, with no further consular step, and anything not in Spanish needs a sworn translation. We check each document before you spend on either.

How long does the visa last, and what comes next?

One year, and the visa is itself your residence document for that time. Inside Spain you can then apply to the UGE for an authorisation of up to three years. Renewal beyond that is not stated on the Ministry pages we checked.

Does the Spain digital nomad visa lead to permanent residence or citizenship?

Long-term residence needs five years of legal, continuous residence, and citizenship ten years for a Pakistani national. The Ministry sheet does not say whether time on this route counts, so we do not claim that it does.

What tax will I pay in Spain?

Holders may opt into the impatriate regime: 24 percent on employment income up to 600,000 euros, for the year of arrival and the five after, if you were not tax resident in Spain in the previous five years. Speak to a Spanish adviser before you rely on it.

The tax answer follows the Tax Agency's page on the impatriate regime. Read it before you plan around the rate. We do not give tax advice.
